Arturo Quirós Boada – Bogotá

An electrical engineer by profession, Arturo has over 35 years’ experience in the energy and resources sectors in Colombia and has had a leading role in a number of the nation’s peak business groups in these sectors.

Before embarking on a career as a specialist consultant to the mining and energy sectors, Arturo spent some 20 years working for Colombia’s major electrical utility, Interconexión Eléctrica and Exxon’s oil and gas, and mining subsidiaries in Colombia, Intercol and Intercor.

As a consultant, Arturo worked with Carbones del Cerrejón, whilst it was owned by Exxon; RTZ Bogotá, which was part of Rio Tinto; Prodeco, Cerromatoso and Bogotá’s electrical utility, Codensa.

From 2000 to 2007, Arturo served as the Executive Director of the Chamber of Energy and Large Gas Consumers of the National Business Association of Colombia (ANDI), the nation’s peak business organisation. In this position he played an important role in the sustainable development of Colombia’s energy sector.

Whilst occupying that role, Arturo also served as the Executive Secretary of Interame, the Latin American Association of Large Energy Consumers, from 2003 to 2006. Interame’s members comprise peak business entities from the energy sectors of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay. 

In this role, Arturo was a frequent speaker at energy-related conferences throughout Latin America, including the Latin America Gas Summit, Latin America Energy Congress and the Symposium on Free Market Electricity in Brazil. He also represented Interame in regional forums such as Corporacion Andina de Fomento (CAF), Latin American Energy Organisation (OLADE) and International Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers (IFIEC World).

From late 2007 to 2011, Arturo served as the Executive Director of Asomineros, the mining sector chamber of ANDI. This role involved Arturo representing the interests of Colombia’s mining companies in their dealings with government and in international organisations such as the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), the World Coal Institute (WCI), the Inter-American Mining Society (SIM) and Latin American Mining Organisation (OLAMI).
